Perhilitan rangers catch pesky sun bear
JELI: Villagers in Kampung Pasir Dusun can sleep easier now that a sun bear, which had been destroying their crops, has been captured.
Wildlife and National Park Department rangers caught the female bear using an iron cage trap recently.
Ramlan Derani, 38, said the bear had been a problem for the past three years and a lot of the crops had been damaged by the bear.
“There was nothing we could do,” he said.
Zaki Muhamad, 40, said the villagers had been complaining about the bear since last year.
“The problem will never stop as long as the forests are cleared for planting or logging activities. The animals will surely encroach into the villages,” he said.
State department director Fazli Abdulfatah said the bear had been sent to the Malacca Zoo.

It is a tough life for a Sun Bear! You lose your forest home, you search for food where you can find it and because the human neighbours dont like to share , you find yourself in Malacca Zoo! I suppose there are worst options and endings for a Sun Bear , but wildlife everywhere seem not to be welcomed or respected by humans around the globe. How are you Siew Te? How are things developing with the Sun Bear Conservation Centre? Brenton.
Hi Brenton,
Yes, they really have such a tough life to live. In the forest is tough: finding food is not easy; always have to fight for life; and if they are not lucky, they can be kill by other bears, or eaten by tiger or python!
For the sun bear that live between thin line between forest and plantation, well, you read the news. Hai…
I am barely hanging with everything going on around me. Lots of stresses from many issues in life. If you are religious, pleas pray for me and my family, and the sun bear too.
Thanks~
